Pharmacology of spirulina

Spirulina is known as a richest food supplement because of its nutritive value. It is a good source of proteins (60 to 70%) and also contains vitamins, carbohydrates, lipids, fibres, antioxidants etc. The protein content of spirulina is 85 to 95 % digestible. Fatty acids present in spirulina in the form of linolenic acid and gamma linolenic acid which elevates HDL levels and improves fatty acid profile and act as a precursor of prostaglandin E1 which prevents platelet aggregation in blood vessels and also controls inflammations.
